Team White 3 vs. Team Dark 3 A rare, low-scoring tie game in MDHL league play… Friday, January 17, 2003
Definitely one of the closest games ever. Yes, even closer than last week, as you can't get any closer than a tie, can you? In a rare low-scoring affair (possibly one of the lowest in league history) the goals were hard to come by... harder than getting Oye to raise his voice at any point in time. Both GMs were back on the ice after missing last week's stellar tilt and were looking to get in on the action.
The goalies put on a scintillating performance at both ends of the rink admist run-and-gun chances all night long. Team Dark's Lawrence "extra hockey sessions are my secret weapon" Lau continues his outstanding play with a two goal effort to lead his team while assistant Captain Sean "all I see are pylons on the opposing side" Oye continues to be the biggest threat on either side with his exceptional skating and playmaking skills. Team White were not without their fair share of chances as they launched many a shot at goaltender Samson "I'll get a shutout in the league if I have to play 'til I'm 80" Chow, including a dazzling triple save rally in one play from White sniper Anthony "I'm not used to being stopped at close range, dammit" Chang.
Team White did jump out to a 2-0 lead only to have it erased by three unanswered goals including Team Dark's Kenny "my stick is my best friend" Chiu converting on a 2-on-1 from Oye. Team Dark took a controvesial "too many men" penalty as witnesses disputed a seventy-five or five foot player change to thwart an offensive chance. Well, that incident will have to remain an X-File. And so with time winding down in the late stages, Team White's assistant captain, Jason "I can't think under this kinda pressure" Lai converts on a breakaway after forcing a turnover at the point to preserve a tie. Otherwise, goal posts were a' dingin' at both ends but at the final buzzer, it ended up in a saw off.
MDHL 3 Stars:
3. Jason Lai... tying goal and one assist after missing last week in NYC munching on steak and beer... who knew?
2. Samson Chow... stellar netminding including highway robbery off Skate on a few occasions.
1. Lawrence Lau... rising to blue-chip prominence after his one year hiatus? |
