Summer and Pickleball… hot enough for ya?

Mad Dogs annual PB clash #6 finally arrived amidst a summer of pickleball overflow, considering all the great weather and IPOP sessions in the mix this season. Back to MXD and an ATH 12 teams vying for glory with skills competitions and mens/womens singles events too. Doubtful anyone was loving the indoor facility's surface, lighting and lack of A/C on a warm day but alas, it was a booking that took weather and crowds out of the equation for the 5 hours of mortal combat in store.

Some new pairings and a few new faces in the field made for good matches but with such a deep field, tourney round robin pool play was required including just single elimination playoffs. As predicted by most, the favoured teams were the favourites, while a great showing by the 'most improved' player Terry and his ace partner Diane, also went deep for a 4th place finish. Chee and Greg found chemistry as a new squad sailing to a bronze medal finish, while familiar power pair Ani and Chris were runner-up finishers, to a repeat champ, Bree with her new partner Ray taking the trophy and title!

Cue the group lunch and skills competitions with 19 participants testing their skills in serves, drops and drives. Results were all over the map but that drill master, Gord outlasted another ace, Jihe in a tie-breaker to claim the glory.

Last but not least, a myriad of singles matches got underway with round-robin matchups on courts every which way, while Jihe and Jason outlasted their competition to take those titles (with the former posting a perfect 7-0 record).

A fun day but a long day as summer now winds down. Time to break out the ice packs, booze and rest up too. Congrats to all the event winners, and thank you to our selfless volunteers (Liv, Cindy, May, Greg 2.0) that helped make this event possible. See you next year!
