Western Conference 13 vs. Eastern Conference 9 West and their subs clinch the series win... Friday, December 6, 2002
Off the top, we announce a personal best hat-trick effort by East rookie RW
Michael "up 'n comer (as in hockey, not porn)" Nguyen with his best MDHL
showing to date. Wait a sec, that was the previous game. So much for
timely reporting on this author's part, or else the news is slow to trickle
down!
On to the latest tilt, it was a rare battle of sub superstars as no
less than five regulars were out of the game's lineup only to be replaced
with some of the cream of the MDHL farm team crops. The West were led by
their newly appointed captain Sean "planning my strategy during Friday
afternoon at work" Oye who decided to brush off his employer with a secret
pre-game conference call with the enemy. The West looked strong in the
early going thanks to solid play and contributing offense by sub Tyson
"don't have to leave early this time to pick up my working wife" Carvell
playing on the big line in replacement of Captain Archibald. Also on the
West, a cagey veteran of the league and now missing persons re-found, Ron
"anyone wanna buy a good used set of hockey gear?" Pong makes a welcome
return for a game and was blocking shots like he never left.
Although it
was the East takin' it to 'em in the early going and jumping out to an 8-4
lead thanks to a balanced two-line attack featuring ex-sub-superstar Jeff
"hands like Mario but skates like Snepts" Ohashi who had trouble staying on
his skates on many occasions. Someone get that boy a skate sharpening pass
for Christmas!
The West were undeterred as they had sub Basse "I'm the
lucky charm of the MDHL" Clement riding his winning streak for the season,
and managed to battle back in the late going. Ultimately with offense vs.
offense, it was the West D corps that broke it open with timely goals thanks
to sub and acting assistant Sherman "Forget Rintoul, I'm the real
Shermanator" Woo on a nice one-timer in the high slot and Randy "did I score
that pretty deflection goal? Won't happen for another year I bet..." Parmar
also in the high slot. The West logged the usual high offensive output by
Allen "didn't even know I scored that fourth one" Leung leading all players
and helping to clinch the series victory for the West!
MDHL 3 Stars:
3. Tom Ng... ex-forward of sniper calibre now solid on D albeit in a losing
cause.
2. Randy Parmar... that sweet goal makes him look like the second coming of
Brian Leetch... nah!
1. Allen Leung... another four goals and soon to challenge for the all-time
MDHL sniper title. |
