Western Conference 10 vs. Eastern Conference 9 A classic showdown right down to the wire... Friday, November 29, 2002
What a game, what a game. Perhaps the best game to-date in the new season and arguably a classic showdown for the MDHL history books as both teams
were running on high octane on this night.
Perhaps fueled by the success of
previous game's top line from the East, the West decided to counter with
their own deadly forward trio of Oye-Leung-Archibald and alas (or "Ola!",
get it?), their intensity was infectious. Everyone performed with
playoff-like ferver all night long with the West hanging onto a slim lead
throughout. West drop-in F Dominique "won't be dominated on this night"
Kwong stepped up his worth considerably with a key goal and a lot of
dedicated 2-way play (unlike some plumbers in his own league I might add),
as did F Lawrence "used to be a sniper in my old days with the MDHL, lemme
tell ya..." Lau pouncing on an offensive zone turnover all alone in the
slot.
West goalie drop-in and last season's regular, Jason "big, black and
beautiful baby" Zeidler was in tough in the early going but settled down in
the late stages to give his team a chance. The East did have their share of
chances, in part from three breakaways that RW Jason "can't settle that
puck, or my nerves for that matter" Lai was unable to convert (now that's a
plumber for ya).
In the waning moments of the game on a one goal
difference, the West's defensive gaffe after a goalie stoppage nearly cost
them the equalizer while East captain Skate flirted with pulling his own
goalie as the clock wound down.
In other notes, West F Stan "it's every
Dad's dream to score one for his kid in his first game out" Quan didn't
fulfill his wish, but did let a few glorious chances slip by while his baby
boy Nathan "am I gonna inherit this bonehead league??" Quan makes his ice
hockey attending debut.
MDHL 3 Stars:
3. Stan Quan... any guy that would bring his kid to watch us jokers deserves some accolades.
2. Sean Oye... killer on offense and skated miles through many Eastern pylons.
1. Mike Smith... solid as usual, and good enough to notch the win. |
