Spidermen 11 vs. Green Goblins 7 Thursday, August 1, 2002
The final rubber match of the series went by way of Team Spidey in an
intense but not-quite-so-close tilt to wrap up the year... The early going
was tight and entertaining as both teams locked in evenly at two goals a
piece... Perhaps the war cries to "win it for Ian" rang true as the Spideys
pulled ahead while peppering stalwart sub-in G Sherman Chan with power-play
like opportunities... Regular G Smokey was a last minute stratch due to
babysitting dilemmas, but Chan and his 6'2" frame did fill in admirably and
on late notice, we might add... And so formidable was the Spideys' effort,
it did not go unnoticed by the opposition, notably Goblin all-star D Sean
Oye who was duly impressed with the performance of the enemy...
Meanwhile, the Goblins had structured a desperate but potent attack in a power line
with Oye-Leung-Chang resulting in a hat-trick for Allen, albeit in a losing
cause... Goblins' captain Stan, returning from a two-game hiatus, decided to
play his trump cards all at once leaving other possible holes in and on the
ice... Perhaps their ill-fated effort was sealed from the get-go with the
stalwart performance of all-powerful drop-in D Daniel Atkin, making a rare
appearance with the MDHL... Atkin was stellar as usual, settling well into
his role as the "anti-Sean"...
And finally, it was a welcome return for
ex-MDHLer Johnson Chiu who makes his appearance back on ice in front of his
newlywed bride from Japan... Too bad she was cheering for the team on the
wrong side of the score board… |
