Eastern Conference 13 vs. Western Conference 9 East roars back with first series victory! Friday, November 1, 2002
And just when it looked like a series shutout was on tap, the East come back
with a vengence and a convincing kick-ass victory. Frequented drop-in Basse
Clement, a last-minute trade offer to the East after playing each previous
game with the West, helped to bolster the win making him the only undefeated
player left this season.
With each team playing nine aside, the West came
out sputtering starting eight on the bench, without their assistant captain
Archibald who had to return home for his missing gloves. The firing of his
equipment manager is surely in order. Down 5-2 in the early going and never
gaining a lead, the West were in tough all night long behind their
not-quite-Norris-quality D-corps of Lai, Wong, and Kwon.
The East fielded a
double dose of Changs in their first line with the brother (in law) duo of
Anthony and Richard, clearly trying to cash in on the Tucker-Corson fame.
Well it worked, as they came out blazing and East captain Skate finishes
with seven goals. He also picks up the game's only tripping infraction with
a doesn't-get-any-guiltier-than-that penalty having left his stick in the
other player's skate for hard evidence. Along with more solid sophomore
play from Michael Nguyen and Raymond "the better Chan" Chan helped the East
cruise to victory.
Smokey gets the win between the pipes, while Sam is left
looking for payback at next game. Skiping a week due to long weekend, MDHL
action resumes Friday November 15th @ Trout Lake.
MDHL 3 Stars:
3. Allen Leung... five goals in a losing effort, but hey, five goals!
2. Richard Chang... break out game after taking some pre-game trash talk
from the West's captain.
1. Anthony Chang... seven goals, still shy of the record (10), but more than
most of us pee-ons could muster in our dreams.
