Western Conference 8 vs. Eastern Conference 7 Another great season is back on tap! Friday, October 11, 2002
After a shortened summer break, MDHL hockey is back in full force! Yee-hah!
Some new faces and revamped lineups ring in another great series no doubt.
Familiar captains were voted back to leadership duty with Lai/Archibald
leading the West and Skate/Quan leading the East.
Veteran MHDL netminder,
Samson Chow returns between the pipes, in place of a late injury (and now a
season scratch) to Ken Takeda. Mike 'Smokie' Smith is back for a full
series as well, having finished his brief stint in Edmonton (... a tryout
with the Oilers was it?). Also Simon Wong, Michael Nguyen and Alex Kwon
return to full-time duty for this series.
So the action was typical of MDHL
hockey, fast paced, clean play, lots of scoring and hard work by all lines
involved. Team West played without 4 regulars in the lineup but had welcome
sub duty from Basse Clement, Dom Kwong and Glenn Chan. A close game on both
sides with the West playing a man down to start, and then another man down
mid-game with C Terry Wong pulling the ouch-my-leg-has-cramped routine...
Regardless, interim assistant captain Sean Oye took matters into his own
hands for the West and scored the GWG late in the game with a
no-holds-barred rush at the net taking out his own captain in the process.
Team East captain Skate Chang carried his team's offensive load (what else
is new?) while players on all sides strained to get their game back in form
from the summer break. Action resumes this Friday 11:15PM @ Trout Lake.
MDHL 3 Stars:
3. Samson Chow... looking sharp in his return to the MDHL.
2. Anthony Chang... offense, offense, offense...
1. Sean Oye... part of a 3-man D and a game winner to boot. |
