2003 SUMMER SERIES: GAME #8 REVIEW

Viet Cong Express 18 vs. Team Angle 7
Close in the start… not so close in the finish

Friday, September 5, 2003

After the early season mercy trade, the standard mid-season equalizer occurred a few weeks late but in time to setup a good match (on paper)... Stan Quan and Travis Wong trade jerseys with the latter finding out in the dressing room... so much for staying on top of the news.... on the outset only two subs found their way into the game, Dave Cheung suiting up for Team Angle after a long summer of golfing and roller hockey, while long time alumni Sherman Woo backs up the VC Express... also returning after short vacations, sorely missed regulars, Fraser Stampvincent, Chris Archibald, and John Low, all missing in parts unknown... so the game had a reasonable lineup of regulars sans AWOL Jeff Ho, partying in Montreal so the rumour goes...

The game kicked off with the makings of a classic matchup in the early going with a quick pace... both Wong and Quan made impressions with their new teams by lighting the lamp while all players were hopping... though it stayed close through mid-game Team Angle could not grab the lead all the way to 6-7 even with Team Angle's Fraser Stampvincent scoring a highlight goal deking between two defenders to spark his squad... they also get the only powerplay as Anthony Chang got up close and personal with Sherman Woo's gloves (aka a good ol fashioned mugging in the slot)... the chances were there but ultimately backfired by giving up a shorthanded goal... down 6-8 Team Angle seemed to wilt while the VC Express continued to hammer on the gas pedal... and then the hurt was on... goals on seemingly all rushs with tap-ins, breakaways... the works. And so Team Angle are unable to break the streak and stand to lose the series unless they can win the last games of the series!

MDHL 3 Stars:

3. Ken Takeda... got shelled but stood up valiantly in the barrage.
2. Stan Quan... New team to impress and explodes for two goals.
1. Jason Lai... new stick and quality linemates = half way to the single game goal record.
